Growing Up

How can it be that I am already the mother of a preschooler.  I don't feel old enough to have a child in school.  I still feel not quite grown myself.  It's so strange.  I've been noticing it in slow, little moments.  Yesterday, I commented that I was surprised Hannah hadn't asked for pierced ears yet.  All she has to do is ask, and we'll take her.  Tonight, I went a Meet the Parents Night at Hannah's school.  This afternoon, while we were waiting in line to pick Hannah up, I watched her come out of school, and make her way through the kids sitting on the step and sit quasi in the middle.  I commented to David about how it was incredible to see her picking and choosing which kids she wanted to sit next to.  Then, tonight, while walking to her school for the Parents Night, another kid in a car yelled "hi Hannah" out the window.  Another one of those "wow" moments for me.  I'm so in love with my husband, who did not think he would be able to make it but at the last minute called to say that he was taking a half day.  He made it about 15 minutes late.  We weren't there much longer, after he showed up, but it's important to me that he made the effort to be there.  I'd rather us be there for 10 minutes than nothing at all.  In some ways, I'm sad.  She's growing up.  How much longer will I have those cuddle moments with her?  How much longer do I have until she wants nothing to do with me?  When will she bring home those dreaded homework assignments that I cannot help her with?

More pictures by the mini photographer

The view from Hannah's eyes:

I think Rossi and Mom are her favorite subjects, and inanimate objects.

I forgot one...

of Hannah's library books.  I felt I should add it, since this one seems to be her favorite.

What we're reading

Since we're finally making the library a regular event, I thought I'd start posting the books that Hannah picks out.  I let her pick out her own books.  I check them to make sure she's not getting something beyond her level; a mini novel or something of that sort.  Before school, we were making it once a week.  Now it's every two weeks.  Here's what she picked out last time we went.
This one is really cute, I like it.

This last one I haven't read yet.  It's on tomorrow's agenda for me, since we're headed back to the library on Saturday.

Playdate

We decided to bike.......

on over to Michelle's house.  I need some socialization/company/adult chat/home brew and so much more!  They live so close, and I've been meaning to incorporate biking there instead of driving.  I figured today was as good a day as any.

Hannah had fun on the ride.  Every time a car passed us, she said "they're freaking me out!"

No VIvian/Hannah playdate would be complete without a bath.  Here's the after affects of that....

New and exciting things are happening

Last Monday, Hannah started the preschool program at the YMCA.  It's similar to the Summer Camp she went to.  She has the same teachers but this one is more structured than the Summer Camp.  There is more of a learning focus for this program.  Most of the kids in the preschool were in her summer program.  I'm helping out another mom by dropping her son off with Hannah and picking him up and dropping him off at his babysitters house.  He gets dropped off here at 730 and we leave right at 8.  His babysitter is only about 10 minutes from the house, so it's not bad at all.  And I am being compensated.  His name is Braylen.  The 30 minutes they spend together at my house is slightly chaotic and full of laughter.

Letting in the dog, or trying to.  It's all about teamwork.

I can't express how happy I am with the YMCA program.  I believe that Hannah's teachers; Ms. Pat, Ms. Faith, and Ms. Rakia, are there because they enjoy working with kids.  It's a very comforting thought for a parent.

Goofy pets

Exactly what is says.  I took these pictures just a few days ago.

Here's Pierro, sleeping on Hannah's new chair.

And Rossi; goofy, goofy dog.  I picked up this toy for him on Monday.  I wanted a light-weight ball to toss around in the house with him.  It's hard to find a light-weight ball that he want eat in 10 minutes.  I did find one though.  See how much he likes it!
