My new workout partner

I've picked up a new exercise partner: Hannah.  I have these grand dreams of Hannah and I running in races together.  I've seen moms and daughters running together in many of the events I've run in.

We're just starting out together.  I've told her we can run as far, and as fast, as she wants to go.

I've told her that it's about me and her spending time together.  I know I'm pushing Riley in the photo's but that's more to help  me slow down than anything else.

Right after she finished her bike ride, she got out a ran with me.  It was her first brick workout. = )

So far, it's going good!  She's excited about it, which is huge.  And she's pretty good.  Her form is good, her legs and feet are flopping all over the place.  She'd rather go fast than slow.  And she's willing to go pretty far, in my opinion.
I can't wait to see how we progress together.

Methodist University Obstacle Course

David and I are signed up for the Brave Soldier Challenge.  I am so excited about it.
And a little nervous.  I haven't climbed a rope or crossed monkey bars since elementary school.  That's why I'm excited, because I have to actually train for it.

The loose log roll.

Once I signed up, I set out to find a rope and monkey bars.  A friend from the running club told me about an ROTC course behind Methodist University, which had a rope, monkey bars and many other obstacles.

Saturday morning I ran 7 miles.  I signed up for a 10k, then parked really far away from the packet pick up.  I came home, showered, and then felt like it would a good idea to go tackle this course before Hannah's Awana's game practice.

Not the most thought out plan.  I was pretty exhausted.  But the course was SO MUCH FUN!!!  And REALLY HARD!  I consider myself to be very physically fit.  I like pushing myself to pain in my workouts.  This course made me feel weak.

The rope climb.  So hard.
Although, David taught me a foot technique that will make climbing it much easier.  It'll make it all about my legs, instead of my arms.

Hannah wanted to try.  From now on, we're going to spend a little time with her, teaching her how to do some of the obstacles too.

The monkey bars.  They were slightly intimidating, but I did finally make it about halfway.

Military hurdles.  I was better at this than anything else.  I bruised the heck out of my knee caps.  And I fell on my butt once.

Burns from trying to tackle the vertical wall.  There's no photo of the vertical wall here, but it's about 9 feet high with a small wood step up in front of it.  For this, I have to work on my jump.  I couldn't get my shoulders over the top of the wall.  At the wall, I also learned that my running shoes were not proper foot wear for climbing a wall.

So I'll just have to get better.  That starts tonight.  I'm meeting David there after work.  I hope to get out there 3 times a week every week in between now and the Brave Soldier Challenge.  And after the challenge, I'm going to keep it on my workout rotation.
Progression photo's to follow.

My first road bike crash

Last Sunday I went out for a spin on my bike and experienced my first fall. My pedals are clip ins, therefore when I come to a stop, I must unclip my shoe in order to put my foot down. Welp, we were coming to a stop at a stop sign and I didn't get my right foot out fast enough and just fell right on over! It's wasn't so bad. Everyone I was with said I fell "gracefully". I'm just glad I didn't throw my right arm out to catch myself, cause I would've broken something.

Some Things I Love

Can someone please tell me why my photo's are sideways?  I cannot figure it out!  It happens to photo's that are taken sideways, but I've rotated them in iphoto, so I don't know why they're sideways here.  Ugh!  Ok.

Have you seen these?  Freaking fantastic, it's a good thing they only come in
small packages.

Ok, so David and my sister aren't crazy about these but I love them!  They're casual enough to go with jeans and a T-shirt but they add a little something special.

My legs are very white, and I have my bicycle shorts on.  But isn't this wristlet cute.  I think so.  And it holds everything I want it to hold.

I've been researching this product for a year.  I first saw it here: Daily Garnish.  I've been steadily researching it since then.  David was supposed to turn one of our kegs into a seltzer keg but it never happened.  We were in Target a few weeks ago and we saw it.  David agreed that it looked good.  We made the agreement that once I drank all the seltzer water I had bought, we'd pick this up.  I'm 24 hours in and on my 4th liter os seltzer water.  I love it!  It's super easy and convenient.

This is my new ipod addition and it's a butt kicker.  I really like the way it's set up.  The different song tracks are set to different exercise; but kicks, lunges, high knees, etc., and it's set it short spurts.  So you have 30 second intervals with a 10 second rest.  I don't know

Hannah, the P90X pro

I know, I'm behind the power curve on the p90x craze.  I got it for Mother's Day, last week I finally pulled it out to see what it was all about.  I wanted to watch the video's before I started doing them.  Hannah decided to work out along with the video.  I must admit, it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside to see her mimic the movements.

Stretching

Side lunges

kicks

jump squats

She did pretty good.  And she last about 20 minutes.  She's well on her way to being my little exercise partner!
