Vacation Bible School: The Big Apple Adventure

The set up in the sanctuary for the last week.  Every day the kids congregated in here, at the end of their day, to watch a video about Silly Billy (our pastor) who was lost in New York and trying to find his family.  The two people on stage walk up and down the aisles, soaking all the kids, and the parents last night.  It was a really big turn out.  The 5th and 6th grade classes alone were over 50 kids!  They baptized 26 kids last night.

Hannah's magnet, with her statue of liberty picture.

Her certificate of completion.

This is part of the carnival they had set up for all the kids.  This little kid race was so funny.  Hannah and Ethan did it three times.  The first time they didn't know they were supposed know they were supposed to turn around so when they got to the end, Hannah got out and jumped up and down excitedly while Ethan turned around and went back to the start.  The second and third race, Ethan ran into the cones, as you'll see in the video.  It's a short video, less than 1 minute.

Hilarious.

While watching this race, David said "that's why we (men) have higher insurance premiums."

Drilling on

David broke ground, literally.  It was quite the challenge, especially since I couldn't help much.  So David was going at it alone.  It took about 6, very long, hours.  And many tools flying out of anger.  A lot of cigarettes.  Tomorrow, he'll tackle drilling the well again.

This is what David has been up to for the last 5 hours.

That, my friends, is victory.

See, there was a chain wrapped around a lower part of the pipe.  It was initially attached to a chain horse, to try and pull the pipe up that way at first.  Through the course of trying, the slip knot was covered in silt.  So David had to get to that ball of chain through all that silt and lift it off the pipe.  Now we can place this pvc pipe down around the lead pipe and blast water down the pvc to clear the silt surrounding the pipe.

This Moment:

Dirty words may be flying.

For all the reasons they make me yell....

They sure do make me smile!

Banzai Water Falls Pool

This is what we started with:

Yes, it really packages that small.  Not that it really matters because we'll probably never get it that small again.

Blowing it up.  It works off a constantly running blower, just like a bouncer.

Connecting all the sprayers.

At the top of the slide.

And down!

Splashing grandpa, she did a lot of this!

Hannah and Ethan.  He was a little skeptical, and it took him a few minutes to take the plunge down the slide, but once he did, it was all he wanted to do.

So this is what happened:  we were having so much fun on the other one.  All of us playing and splashing.  Grandpa Bob started asking questions about the one we wanted.  And then said "Let's go get it."  David and I were a little skeptical at first but then Grandpa expressed that he "was behind in the spoiling department."  Over the course of 4 days, this pool, and the other one we borrowed, wore Hannah slam out!  She was still exhausted on Tuesday.  I couldn't believe it.  Sunday night we sat in it, relaxing with some friends of ours.  It was so nice.  I love it so much, I don't mind the little bit of work to put it up and take it down.  Putting it up is super easy.  Taking it down requires time only because you have to let the pool dry completely before you can put it away.  Another Cernock reccomendation: the Bansai Pool!

A new piece of furniture

I've been on the hunt for a small dresser that would fit in Hannah's closet.  I need some place to put all those onesies!  Hannah's closet it weird, it's big and deep enough for a dresser to fit completely inside.  I was talking about it with my dad last month and he offered to make Hannah one out of some cedar he had acquired.

It took him a little longer than he hoped, because this was the first time he had ever made something that required a sliding rail.  I think he did a pretty darn good job.  I love that you can smell the cedar before you see it in Hannah's room.

Plus, it's bigger than I expected it, so I can fit all of baby Cernock's stuff in there and some of Hannah's.

I like it!

What we've been up to

We've been trying to keep busy.  Hannah's not in school anymore and I knew the first week would be a tough transition for both of us.  So I pulled out some projects I've been hanging on to.

This is something new I picked up, mostly because I wanted to make bracelets!

It's harder than it looks.  Or maybe I'm just pregnant.  Either way, I had to get David to read the instructions and figure out how to knot the bracelets.

A completed bracelet.

We've had these for a few months, so I pulled these out yesterday for Hannah to paint.
She still hasn't painted Snow White.

Hannah and her kids.  They were going to the beach.  Notice all the stuffed animals are in bathing suits.

No beach trip is complete without a check up first.

Next week we're going to do some stepping stones.
